Total Productive Management  TPM

TPM is an applicable system, such as HACCP and includes comprehensive procedures for the sustainable elimination of losses, waste and waste in the production of process plants.
Total Productive Management includes proactive maintenance with the involvement of experienced and involved employees. In this analysis, it is important to consider the effectiveness of the system, as well as the extension of service life or service life, as well as the resilience and redundancy of the systems considered.

Procedurally intensive companies usually maintain a preventive, systematic maintenance as well as machine management programs, which is often referred to as the TPM system. The term "management" today describes the concept of TPM more precisely than the original term maintenance. The use of the term total productive management includes the definition of "maintenance" with "conservation" and "adaptability", so TPM means the comprehensive preservation of productivity, which goes beyond the technical machine functionality.

Implementation of TPM

To implement TPM as an included management tool to increase the production stability of a business or multi-site organization, TPM's goals must be clearly defined.

As with any other ISO management system, the top management of the organization must define clear goals, and provide the appropriate resources to both managers and employees. TPM includes the following goals:

  • Establishment of a corporate and working culture in order to constantly and sustainably improve the efficiency of production and all interacting areas, processes and systems.
  • Establishment of a superior system to detect and avoid all losses, wear, scrap and disturbances, with all measures being directed to the process and directly to the deviations (5S method)
  • Establishment of a continuous improvement process, which includes all relevant business areas such as R & D, supply chain, production, sales and administration.
  • Involvement of all employees in a sustainable commitment to support the improvement process, to share in knowledge and knowledge transfer, and to ensure the stability of the corporate culture

As with behavior-based safety, the pursuit of goal attainment must be achieved by involving all employees of a company. In order to make this possible, employees have to be able to expand their knowledge and skills through training and, on the other hand, want to pass this on in a committed way. Knowledge secrets for fear of job losses, respectively advantages through knowledge exclusivity are useless management mistakes. All parties involved must internalize the TPM culture and have it exemplified by the leadership.

As simular to behavior-based safety programs, this progressive system largely depends on the behavior of executives.
